Nursing Research Unit

Nursing Research Unit

The Nursing Research Unit is a research initiative integrated into the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) through the Nursing Research Faculty, providing research support and mentorship to nurses across our sites, including The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, Bear Cottage and NETS.

Objectives

  • To drive and develop nursing and midwifery research capability and capacity to inform practice and achieve excellence in paediatric care.
  • To foster critical thinking, innovation, and enquiry to produce high quality research.
  • To be recognised as leaders in paediatric nursing and midwifery research at a state, national and international level.
  • To provide highly visible nursing and midwifery research leadership.

Impact

  • We established the Nursing Research Training Program, for nurses who are seconded. The program is based on the needs and prior experience of the nurse researchers, the projects they will lead during secondment and the duration of the secondment.
  • We enable nurse-led research projects and provide support for nurses through resources and opportunities. We conduct regular research workshops and academic writing workshops and writing groups, as well as mentorship programs like our Nursing Research Hub or research nursing internships.
