Learning Health System Initiative

The Learning Health System Initiative or Sydney Kid's Learning Health Initiative aims to develop an integrated, collaborative learning healthcare environment that evaluates the health care of children with infections and diseases, with current focuses on serious bacterial infections, cystic fibrosis and lower respiratory tract infections. It will serve to be a national response to many critical and time-sensitive infections and diseases in Australia.

The program is a funding partnership between Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and the University of Sydney, and is being led by Professor Tom Snelling, Infectious Diseases Physician at The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network.

It hopes to standardise a process in where current information from hospital electronic Medical Records (eMR) is used to better inform ways to provide care to children with serious infections and diseases, particularly children with specific infections or disease characteristics not commonly managed.

This standardised process will be able to provide evidence to clinicians helping them make informed health care decisions at the point of care for children.
